the 4-Hour speed build 'turnout special' – Sunday 19th March 2017, 10am - 2pm

HARLEY CUSTOM SHOW 'turnout special' – Sunday 21ST MAY 2017, 10am - 4pm

If you’ve ever been down to the Twisted Iron Garage meets on the third Sunday of the month, you’d be used to seeing around 40 guys and gals there some on custom bikes, who just want a quiet bacon roll and a chat about their next build. However, if you turned up to the Harley Davidson Sportster Special meet that took place on 21st May, it would be quite a different experience with over 300 bikes turning up!

This was the 3rd ‘Special’ that Twisted Iron had put on, the first was a ‘Triumph Special’ where some of the finest Triumph customs they could find came along. The second was the ‘4-Hour Build’, where Raw Steel Choppers and Naked Speed Customs, transformed a standard Zephyr into a custom café-fighter. Both events were well attended with around 100 people turning up. However, there’s something about Harley Davidsons that captures the public interest and it wasn’t long after publishing the event on Facebook that there were 800 people interested in coming along!

Twisted Iron had decided to have a Harley Davidson custom show to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Sportster, (although the show was open to any Harley custom that cared to ride-in). As with all the Garage meets it was held in Culham, Oxfordshire at ‘This is Your Garage’ a great little venue with its own café upstairs and several work bays, fully equipped with tools that you can rent out by the hour to work on your vehicle. The owner Dave also decided to lay on a BBQ with hot dogs to order.

Well supported by Sickboyz Customs, Sledhead Custom Cycles, Rolling Art Motorcycles, Avon County Choppers, Bearknuckle Custom Paint, and Custom Chrome Europe there was lots to see and do. There was even a photographer who brought his own pop-up studio and was doing studio shoots for only £25 a print.

The professional builders brought along some of their builds displayed alongside their stands inside the Garage. Sledhead Custom Cycles unveiled their revamped build of the beautiful ‘Little Red’ owned by Andrew Brown, which was more stunning than before, if that was even possible.

After some atrocious weather the day before, on Sunday morning the sun came out and so did the crowds. There were some great entries in the show and there were 4 prizes, First Prize was given by Custom Chrome Europe 125 Euro voucher, along with a winner’s certificate and t-shirts from Sickboyz, Sledhead and Twisted Iron and a place in the show marquee at The Happening – won by Nick Botting with his RCF/Harley 1200 Supercharged, ‘Caliburn’. Two runners up prizes won certificates and t-shirts from Twisted Iron with tickets to ‘The Happening’ – won by Chris Ball with ‘Deco’ and Kevin Wheeler with his Ironhead. Finally, there was a Professional Build Prize of a certificate for Sledhead Custom Cycles and a place in the show marquee at The Happening – won by Andrew Brown with ‘Little Red’.

Keep your eyes peeled for more Specials at the monthly Twisted Iron meets and in the meantime, for a ride, breakfast and chat about custom bikes get down to ‘This Is Your Garage’ every third Sunday morning from 10am.
